Biography

Associate Professor Matthew Foote is a Radiation Oncologist who is an internationally recognised specialist in the management of brain tumours, head and neck cancer and cutaneous (skin) cancer. Having completed his specialist training in Brisbane in 2009, A/Prof Foote undertook further sub-specialist training in stereotactic (brain and spine) radiosurgery and neuro-oncology at the world-renowned Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto.

Commencing at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2010 and Greenslopes Private Hospital in 2012, A/Prof Foote maintains a busy public and private practice.  He established and is Co-Director of the Gamma Knife Centre of Queensland and is a Founding Member and previous Chair of the Stereotactic Interest Group of Australasia (SIGA).  He has served as Chair of the International Clinical Research Subcommittee (ICRS) and on the Management Committee for the Cooperative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO).  He is an ex-officio Board Member of the International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society (ISRS) and is part of the ISRS Certification Committee which improves quality of stereotactic services world-wide.

A/Prof Foote is committed to ongoing medical education in his role with The University of Queensland and is involved in medical research in stereotactic radiotherapy, melanoma and skin cancer through active national and international collaborations. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, many in the field of stereotactic radiotherapy, brain and skin cancer.

In 2019 A/Prof Foote was awarded the University of Toronto Alumnus of the Year in recognition of services to the field of radiation oncology.

In his role as Icon Group’s Deputy Director of Radiation Oncology, A/Prof Foote provides strategic direction and clinical advice to Icon’s radiation oncology services.
