Biography

Prof Sabe Sabesan is an experienced medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Townsville. In 1995 he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree at Flinders University. After completing his internship at Alice Springs Hospital in 1996, Prof Sabesan developed a passion for equitable and exceptional patient care regardless of where a person lives. As a result, he pioneered the use of telemedicine at Townsville Hospital to treat patients with cancer who live in remote and rural areas.

Prof Sabesan is actively involved in research that looks to enhance rural oncology outcomes and has received several grants to support his research and develop systems that better serve rural patients. He is an Associate Professor at James Cook University and is actively involved in curriculum design and coordinating oncology education. Prof Sabesan became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2003.

His clinical experience covers a broad range of solid tumour malignancies with special interest in breast cancer, colorectal cancer, genitourinary cancer, gynaecological cancer and lung cancer. Prof Sabesan sees patients both on-site and via teleconferencing.
