Biography
Dr Gishan Ratnayake is a radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Greenslopes and Icon Cancer Centre Auchenflower. Dr Ratnayake completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at Monash University in 2009. He subsequently commenced specialist radiation oncology training across Queensland’s tertiary hospital network. During his training, Dr Ratnayake undertook research as a clinician scientist and was awarded a Master of Philosophy at the University of Queensland.
In 2018, Dr Ratnayake became a fellow at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) and undertook further training in stereotactic radiation therapy at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. He maintains a keen interest in clinical research and trials, particularly in the area of radiobiology. Dr Ratnayake has a number of peer reviewed publications and has presented his research work at both national and international conferences. Alongside his practice at Icon, he is a radiation oncologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland’s School of Medicine.
His clinical experience covers a wide range of solid tumour malignancies, with a special interest in breast cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer and head and neck cancer. He is also highly experienced in the use of stereotactic radiation therapy to achieve the best possible outcomes for his patients.
