Dr Renee Finnigan is an experienced, detail-oriented radiation oncologist who is passionate about delivering the best possible care to her patients. Dr Finnigan’s patients benefit from her extensive knowledge and understanding of cancer care and ability to listen to their concerns and assist them in making well-informed decisions.

Biography

Dr Finnigan obtained her medical degree at the University of Newcastle in 2005 and completed her internship and residency at Cairns Base Hospital and Mater Misericordiae Health Services, Brisbane.

During her radiation oncology specialist training, Dr Finnigan rotated through metropolitan and regional training centres across the Queensland network.  She was awarded the CE Eddy Prize for achieving the highest RANZCR Radiation Oncology Part 1 Examination results in 2010. She was awarded fellowship to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) in 2013.

Completing a clinical and research fellowship at Princess Alexandra Hospital from 2013 to 2014, Dr Finnigan specialised in the areas of intra-cranial stereotactic radiotherapy/radiosurgery (SRT/SRS) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT/SABR). She has worked as a Consultant Radiation Oncologist at Gold Coast University Hospital since 2014.

Dr Finnigan remains actively involved in clinical research, holding memberships with the Trans-Tasman Radiation Oncology Group (TROG) and the Cooperative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO). She regularly attends and presents lectures for the Gold Coast Cancer Care Collaborative Group (GCCCC). She is an Executive Committee member for the Faculty of Radiation Oncology Genito-Urinary Group (FROGG). She continues to update her knowledge through literature review and attendance at national and international workshops and conferences.

A passionate advocate for cancer medical education, Dr Finnigan regularly teaches medical students and training doctors. She has been the Queensland representative for RANZCR Targeting Cancer Medical Student Education Working Group, associate lecturer for University of Queensland, radiobiology tutor for the Queensland Radiation Oncology Trainee Network, and convenor for the annual RANZCR Statistics Workshop. Dr Finnigan is also a member of the Health Advisory Team for BEAT Bladder Cancer Australia.

Dr Finnigan has a wide-ranging practice with particular interest in breast, brain, lung, urological cancers and haematological malignancies. She participates in regular multidisciplinary team meetings and believes in a holistic approach to patient care.
