Biography
Dr Shiv Pathmanathan is a medical oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Townsville. In 2012 he completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at James Cook University and subsequently undertook specialist medical oncology training at various Brisbane, Gold Coast and North Queensland hospitals and tertiary oncology centres. During his training, Dr Pathmanathan gained extensive experience in the management of a broad range of solid tumour malignancies in a multidisciplinary environment. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
Dr Pathmanathan maintains a strong commitment to improving models of care for patients, with a particular interest in geriatric patient management and enhancing access to cancer care for vulnerable patient groups. He is actively involved in medical education, clinical research and trials, contributing to several peer-reviewed publications and EVIQ protocols and presenting at national and international conferences. His presentations include multi-centre collaborative research in management of melanoma in elderly patients, cancer management in elderly patients, and the administration of chemotherapy in rural areas. Dr Pathmanathan is also involved the teaching of medical students, junior doctors and advanced trainees.
His clinical experience covers a wide range of solid tumour malignancies, with a special interest in breast cancer, skin cancer including melanoma, genitourinary cancer, gastrointestinal cancer and geriatric oncology.
